The construction sector is regarded as a powerful economic development arm that significantly contributes to the progress and advancement of nations. This sector plays a crucial role in construction and development, driving the growth of emerging economies, and providing sound infrastructure for all services. The construction sector in Saudi Arabia is witnessing steady growth amid a surge in both government and private projects, supported by strong economic growth over the past years. This growth is expected to continue in the coming years, God willing, according to the Ninth Development Plan, with the construction sector projected to reach more than 105 billion Saudi Riyals by 2014, contributing approximately 5% to the total domestic economic output.
These days, the Kingdom is experiencing one of the largest construction and development workshops in the world. Despite this, the homeownership rate among citizens is low, at just 20% of the population, with a deficit estimated at one million housing units. This number is expected to rise, supported by population growth that will require an additional 800,000 housing units in the future. This places a significant responsibility on construction companies of various classifications to meet this demand and keep pace with growth on the foundations of quality and efficiency.
